How thick is the yoga mat?

Yoga mats aren't necessarily better the thicker they are. For beginners, 6-8 cm is sufficient. Excessively thick mats can make it harder to maintain balance. Choose the size based on your body type. Yoga mats should not be washed with laundry detergent or powder. Instead, clean them with soap and a soft brush, then air-dry them in the shade—avoid direct sunlight. Cleaning frequency depends on how dirty the mat gets; those who practice frequently should clean it 1-2 times per week. Regarding yoga mat thickness, beginners are generally advised to choose thicker options (e.g., 6mm) to prevent exercise injuries. Once you've gained foundational skills and experience, you can switch to 3.5-5mm thickness. Of course, if you're particularly sensitive to discomfort, you can always opt for a thicker mat. When purchasing a yoga mat, select TPE material and avoid PVC foam mats. TPE mats offer advantages such as lightweight portability, excellent slip resistance in both dry and wet conditions, high purity, and odorlessness, typically priced above 100 yuan. Most PVC foam mats are cheaper, costing only tens of yuan, but they often have an unpleasant odor, poor slip resistance when wet or sweaty, and slower rebound speed.
